Bullet Hole Detection Test Kit (Copper and Lead)

During the examination of suspected bullet hole defects in the field and in the lab, practitioners must consider variables that can influence colorimetric testing and defect identification.  In some cases in forensics, it is difficult to identify suspected bullet defects from other disruptions on various substrates. Some of the most common substrates, such as bodies, clothing, wall boards, metals, and wood products, will not always leave the residues practitioners expect to find. The presence of copper and/or lead are generally tested in these examinations. The use of presumptive bullet hole kits for copper and lead can aid in identifying a defect with the presence of copper, lead, or both substances.  This information aids in identifying bullet type, jacketed or not, the presence of a lead wipe, and the possible directionality of the trajectory.
